Indian entrepreneur Ajay Singh acquired ModiLuft  in 2004 and re-christened  it as SpiceJet.   The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 737 and Bombardier Dash aircraft. It is a low-cost airline that has its headquarters located in Gurugram, India. It has a market share of 13.2% as of March 2017 making it the third largest airline in the country by number of domestic passengers carried. The airline operates over 300 daily flights to 45 Indian destinations from its hubs at Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad.     On May 18, 2005 SpiceJet opened bookings and operated their first flight on May 24, 2005 between Delhi and Mumbai. Indian media baron Kalanidhi Maran acquired 37.7% stake in SpiceJet in June 2010 through Sun Group. Air India

Air India is one of the oldest Indian airlines that is part of the Government of India enterprise. This is one of the most popular airlines in India that has domestic as well as international flights. The headquarters for this airline is at the Indian Airlines House in New Delhi. On 21 February 1960, it took delivery of its first Boeing 707–420 named “Gauri Shankar” and became the first Asian airline to induct a jet aircraft in its fleet. Zoom Air

The company has its headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana. Its Chief executive officer is Mr Koustav Dhar. Zoom Air is the brand name for Zexus Air Services. Zoom Air has been funded with a sum of around US$ 3.3 M.   They began operations on February 15, 2017 with a flight from Delhi to Durgapur via Kolkata. Zoom Air has two Bombardier CRJ-200 in its fleet under dry-lease, seating 50 passengers. IndiGo

In the year 2006, Indigo, today's one of the fastest growing low cost carriers in the world and one of the largest profitable airline in India was established by Rahul Bhatia &  Rakesh Gangwal. The Cost Reduction Business model that has been adopted by the airlines effectively reduces its operating costs. Airbus A320 has been adopted as the sole aircraft type that they usually purchase in bulk from the Airbus company. This saves a great deal of time while the training of the Airlines crew. Air Asia India is one of the most popular airlines which is headquartered in Chennai. This is a joint venture with Air Asia Berhad holding 49% and TATA Sons holding 40.06% and Telstra Trade place holding the remaining 10%. This is an Indo-Malaysian airline which is a low cost carrier. GoAir

Jehangir Wadia, son of Indian industrialist Nusli Wadia founded GoAir in 2005. The airline is a fully-owned subsidiary of the Wadia Group. It is a low-cost carrier based in Mumbai, India. GoAir commenced its operations on 4 November 2005 using an Airbus A320 aircraft and operated its maiden flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Though, the airline initially operated to four destinations including Goa and Coimbatore with a single aircraft, it had plans to induct 36 aircraft by the year of 2008. Vistara is a new Indian airline that is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and TATA Sons. It commenced its operations in January 2015. The inaugural flight was between Delhi and Mumbai. The airline operates over 250 weekly services covering 10 destinations across India. Air Costa

Air Costa is a regional airline which is based out of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. This airline launched in October 2013 and is one of the major domestic airlines in Southern India. The airline launched with an employee strength of 300 which included the pilots and engineers when they kick-started their operations with just two Embraer E-170 aircrafts. The first flight took off from its hub at Chennai on October 16, 2013.   Air Costa is owned by the Indian business company LEPL Group. Air Pegasus

Air Pegasus is an Indian airline based in Bangalore. The airline is a subsidiary of the ground holding services company, Decor Aviation. Air Pegasus started its operations in April 2015 with the inaugural flight flying between Bangalore and Hubli. Air Pegasus operates from its main hub located at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore.   Air Pegasus was serving eight airports aAcross South India with a hub at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, using a fleet of three ATR 72-500 aircraft when they had to suspend operations on 27 July 2016, facing financial difficulties. Air Pegasus has signed an agreement to sell up to 74% stake to FlyEasy, which is yet to commence operations in India. With this sale, Air Pegasus hopes to resume operations from March 2017 keeping the focus on regional connectivity.
