But in some cases, JustAnswer can help you save money as well. I used to have a dog named Peaches. She was a rat terrier and unfortunately, she died a few years ago. But years before I lost her, I got her spayed. The veterinarian acted like it was no big deal even though spaying is a major surgery for a dog. I knew she would be in some pain after the surgery but I had no idea just how bad off she would be. The veterinarian gave me absolutely no information or advice on how to take care of her after she was spayed.
After the surgery, she began acting very strange and even several days later she wouldn't eat anything and would only barely drink any water. I knew that calling the veterinarian that did the surgery would be a waste of time because they would just tell me to bring her back in. Not that I can blame them for that. I used to work in the medical field as an EMT so I understand that it isn't a good idea to try diagnosing someone over the phone. But I didn't want to take her back if I didn't need to because at this point I was pretty upset with how they gave me no aftercare instructions at all.
So I got online and searched for information about what to expect after spaying and I came across JustAnswer.com. I typed my question in and picked how much I would pay for the answer. I picked the $18 option and a veterinarian responded to me right away. I was really impressed by that since I had used similar services in the past and sometimes it would take hours to get a response. Sometimes I wouldn't get a response at all. But I was able to chat with her right away and she asked me several questions about what my dog was doing, how she was acting, how she looked, and so on. And she gave me some excellent advice and told me about several things to keep an eye out for. She really helped put my mind at ease and fortunately, Peaches was just fine (well, as fine as she could be after going through a big surgery). She was a smaller dog and spaying tends to be harder on smaller breeds. So it took her a while to fully recuperate, but she was back to her old self in no time.
If I hadn't come across JustAnswer I would have had to take my dog back to the veterinarian (which was an hour away from my home so that would have cost me $10 just in the gas money for a round trip) and pay about $60 for an appointment and then they would have just told me the same thing the expert on JustAnswer told me. Honestly, they might not have even been that helpful because they were usually so busy they didn't have much time to talk to animal owners.
I was really pleased with the expert on JustAnswer so I also tipped her $3. So my total cost was $21. So I saved about $49. Don't get me wrong, I loved that dog with all my heart and I would have paid a lot more than $49 if she had really needed it.
Another reason this service is so great is that you get one-on-one advice. My dog's veterinarian office always has tons of other animals to deal with and they're incredibly busy. I know they do their best to give pet owners advice but sometimes they're in such a huge hurry that they can't really give you all the information you need. But with JustAnswer, you don't have to worry about that. The expert you talk to is only focused on helping you.
If you have any expertise in a certain area you might want to consider signing up as an expert to make some extra cash on the side. But at the very least, you should remember this site in case you ever need expert advice but don't want to spend a ton of money.
